Recent Work

I am a Dublin-based artist living and working from my studio in Lucan.

I draw on all aspects of life, whether it’s inspiration from my immediate environs or events unfolding way beyond my studio walls. I strive for a varied style and diverse subjects because I am ultimately fascinated with so many facets of life past and present.

I consider myself lucky to have been born in Ireland and even luckier to have been raised in the mythical midlands at a time when fun meant climbing trees and building forts and we had total freedom to roam. It is these fond memories along with my strong connection with nature which have influenced my art. Furthermore, we as a nation have a fascinating history, we have an array of colourful legends and mighty mythology that rivals anything from anywhere else in the world and growing up I always enjoyed old stories as they would fuel my insatiable appetite for adventure. Growing up in rural Ireland nature was my playground, the next adventure was only limited by my imagination and all the old stories simply made me appreciate my surroundings even more. I firmly believe it is these events and stories that have shaped our towns, villages, songs and poems and ultimately our culture, and it is my ambition to capture these in my artwork which is in my mind one of my jobs as an artist.

Although the wonders of the past provide an almost bottomless well of inspiration I still take the time to draw and paint using contemporary themes because they are both more often than not intrinsically linked.
